Fans of cartoon strips will not want to miss the Ink and the
Bottle exhibition in London.
The display at the Cartoon Museum explores the role of alcohol in the lives of
famous artists from the genre, as well as the way such drinks feature in classic and
modern pieces.
Among the names featured in the collection of 90 cartoons are Steve Bell, John
Leech, Donald McGill and George Cruikshank.
The latter is well known for his 19th century piece The Worship of Bacchus, which
was drawn by the artist after giving up his hard drinking days.
Ink and the Bottle will be available for guests at London hotels to view until February 13th 2011 and the organisers claim there are plenty of great
stories to learn at the display.
"[It] looks at our relationship with booze over the last two hundred and fifty
years as seen through the eyes of cartoonists," they remarked.
"Like the best affairs, cartoonists' relationship with drink has been turbulent,
immensely pleasurable but dangerously addictive."
Paul Trelford opined on the Society Grapevine blog that the exhibition is "well
worth" the £5.50 charged for admission.
The Cartoon Museum is normally open Tuesdays to Saturdays 10:30 to 17:30 GMT and
Sunday from 12:00 until 17:30, but the centre will be closed from December 25th 2010
to January 3rd 2011.

venue on 020 7580 8155.
