Industry: Travel

One of Australia's biggest arts, culture and music events will take place in the new year when the 2011 Sydney Festival gets underway.

Running at locations across the New South Wales capital between January 17th and 30th, the spectacle features a bill packed with performances from a whole host of big names.

Among the popular acts set to wow people staying in Sydney hotels at the festival is country and western star Emmylou Harris, who will take to the
stage with her band the Red Dirt Boys at 20:00 local time on January 9th and 10th at the State Theatre. Tickets for these gigs start at A$100.

Movie buffs who have booked Sydney hotel deals may be more inclined to watch Hollywood star John Malkovich starring in The Giacomo Variations at Sydney Opera House.

The show runs from January 20th to 22nd at 20:00, with tickets priced at A$69 and above.

Your Name in Lights, meanwhile, will allow budget accommodation Sydney guests the chance to see the names of 100,000 participants displayed on a Broadway theatre-style billboard outside the Australian Museum.

Each person will get 15 seconds of fame before their name disappears, with this piece set to remain in place throughout the whole festival.

For more information on this event, visit the Sydney Festival website or contact the organisers on (+61) 2 8248 6500.
