LateRooms.com - Discover Cezanne's Card Players in London

Travellers heading to London hotels this winter could put aside to appreciate Cezanne's Card Players - an exhibition that explores one of the great artist's most famous works.

The display can be found at the capital's Courtauld Gallery, which already holds two of Paul Cezanne's pieces: The Card Players and The Man with a Pipe.

However, this exhibition, which is on until January 16th 2011, involves the loan of several other paintings by the artist from international institutions such as the Musee d'Orsay in Paris and Metropolitan Museum in New York.

The curators of the display hope to enhance the experience of Cezanne's pieces by displaying them next to other representations of peasants from the same era, including rare watercolours and oil paintings.

Reviewing the collection for the Guardian, Jonathan Jones awarded the exhibition five stars out of five and praised the way the artist explores his subjects' appearances "fetishistically".

He remarked: "Repressed emotion explodes in Freudian puns and sends volumes erupting out of the canvas or sinking back into flat chaos."

Admission to this intriguing exhibition costs £6, with this charge including the venue's permanent collection as well.

Opening hours for the arts space are from 10:00 to 18:00 GMT, although the museum will stay open until 21:00 on January 13th.

For more information on this event, visit the Courtauld Gallery website or contact the venue on 020 7848 2526.
