A trip to one of the UK's most famous racing venues on New Year's Day could be the perfect way to recover from the excesses of the previous night.

Cheltenham Racecourse will host its annual January 1st meeting once more to mark the beginning of 2011, with large crowds expected at the home of National Hunt racing.

Cheltenham's gates will open at 10:30 GMT on New Year's Day, with the first race due to begin two hours later.

The final contest is scheduled for 15:55 GMT and tickets are priced between £12 and£25.

Situated in a natural amphitheatre below the escarpment of the Cotswold hills, Cheltenham is one of the most scenic racing venues in the country.

It is famous for the four-day Cheltenham Festival, a highlight of the British sporting calendar that takes place at the course each March.
