Industry: Travel

Jose Merce, one of the world's most famous flamenco artists, is set to appear in Seville next month.

The Jerez-born singer will perform at the Teatro de la Maestranza in the Andalusian capital on Saturday January 22nd, giving holidaymakers staying in the accommodation Seville has to offer a chance to hear his celebrated voice and passionate songs.

Merce is the great grandson of legendary flamenco maestro Paco da Luz, won Spain's prestigious Cordoba flamenco competition in 1986 and has worked with many of the genre's finest musicians.

His latest album Ruido (Noise) was released earlier this year and has been praised as one of his best works to date.

In a preview of a show at the London Barbican in November, the LP was described by the venue as "a beautiful album" that features "exquisite and passionate vocals".

It added that the contemporary nature of Merce's arrangements "takes flamenco to a new level".

The artist has produced 17 albums since making his recording debut as a teenager in 1968.

Tickets for his performance at the Teatro de la Maestranza are priced between €20 and €38 (£16.90 and £32.20). The music is due to begin at 20:30 local time.
