Music enthusiasts have the opportunity to enjoy a huge variety of performances at the International Percussion Festival of Catalonia in Barcelona.

Attendees from the cheap hotels Barcelona has to offer can expect to see all manner of instruments over the course of the event, as there will be musicians from across the globe involved.

The organisers of this year's occasion, the sixth edition of the festival, noted that there is a "distinctly international flavour" to the 2011 spectacle, which runs from February 4th to 27th.

"In addition to the Indian musician Trilok Gurtu, who is returning after his memorable performance in 2008, there are musicians from Portugal, Brazil, Denmark, Norway, United States, the Basque Country and Andalusia," artistic director Josep Maria Dutren remarked.

He stressed that the International Percussion Festival of Catalonia has always been about discovering new artists and fresh sounds, with the inclusion of Indonesian instrument the gamelan in this year's event being an example of this philosophy.

Concerts will take place at L'Auditori in the evenings, with each performance individually priced.

Gurtu's show alongside Pedro Javier Gonzalez and Raul Rodriguez occurs on February 18th at 21:30 local time and costs €25 (£21) plus booking fees. Tickets are available to purchase online.

For more information on this event, visit the L'Auditori website or contact the venue on +34 93 247 93 00.
