Holidaymakers who fancy an after-hours trip around some of
Berlin's top cultural attractions should head to the Long Night of
Museums.
Beginning at 18:00 local time on Saturday January 29th, this popular event sees
museums across the city open their doors late into the night and unveil special
exhibitions.
More than 350 installations in 69 different venues are on the programme for the
first of 2011's two Long Nights, with tickets priced at just €15 (£12.90) and €10
for concessions.
Children under 12 will be admitted for free if accompanied by an adult.
The event has been taking place twice a year since 1997 and continues to draw large
crowds, including local culture vultures and people spending time in Berlin hotels.
Attendees can choose to move between the different attractions on foot or take one
of the five free shuttle bus routes, with all transport included in the ticket
price.
As the Long Night of Museums is due to go on until approximately 02:00 local time on
January 30th, people should have plenty of time to enjoy the exhibitions that appeal
to them.
Many venues are set to offer one-off concerts, readings and special shows in
addition to their permanent collections, meaning the event should appeal to those
who are already well-versed in the city's museums.
Covering on area of nearly 400 square kilometres, the shuttle buses will take
visitors to the leading attractions in districts such as Mitte, Pankow and
Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf.
People can see the 29th Long Night of Museums declared officially open at 18:00 at
the Cultural Forum in Potsdamer Platz.
For more information on this event, visit the Long Night of Museums website or
contact the organisers on (+49) 030 24749 732.
