LateRooms.com - The Quod Project Exhibition Set for Perth Opening

Arts enthusiasts staying in Perth hotels next month should make sure they do not miss out on The Quod Project.

The multidisciplinary exhibition is the work of Tania Ferrier and will be housed at the Heathcote Museum and Gallery from January 21st to February 27th 2011.

Ferrier's creation seeks to draw attention to the plight of the Aboriginal men who were imprisoned at The Quod on Rottnest Island during the 19th century.

Despite the building's shady past, it has now been turned into an upmarket tourist destination, which caused the artist to question whether its history is being swept under the carpet.

"The Quod Project exposes hidden history and holds up a mirror to ourselves; are we responsible for our ignorance?" the organisers asked.

Cheap hotels guests who visit the installation will be able to check out the work of photographer James Kerr, who collaborated with Ferrier on the project.

The artist also called on Aboriginal elders representing the Rottnest area - known to the indigenous people as Wadjemup - to help her along the way.

Visitors who have booked cheap Perth hotels will be able to explore the exhibition on weekdays and weekends, although the gallery's opening hours vary.

The art space operates from 10:00 until 15:00 local time from Tuesday to Friday and between 11:00 and 15:00 on Saturday and Sunday.
