DirectRooms.com can announce that the annual Blackpool Chess Conference is to take place over the weekend of 11th to 13th March 2011. The conference is to take place at the Barcelo Blackpool Imperial.

The chess conference is the 36th to be held and is the annual chess tournament in Britain. Run by the Lancashire Chess Association, the event is sponsored by Blackpool Borough Council and the Barcelo Hotel Group and is an English Chess Federation Game Free event.

Guests staying at hotels in Blackpool can look forward to a weekend of tournaments with prizes totalling over £9000. The tournament is to be divided into six sections and two British Championship Qualifiers.

The Barcelo Lancashire Open features a first prize of £800, a second prize of £400 and a third prize of £200 with grading prizes of £100. Other tournaments are the Imperial Major, The Median, The Intermediate, The Minor and The Standard, each with different prize totals.

The timetable for the weekend is set and will see the opening ceremony taking place immediately prior to round one. Round five will take place on the Sunday afternoon. Competitors and spectators can also take advantage of the book stall which will be available, to purchase from a full range of chess goods during the event.

The Blackpool Chess Conference has been running since 1977 and it anticipated having a huge turnout once more, at the Barcelo Imperial Hotel.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: “The Blackpool chess tournament is attended by players from different regions of the UK. So people should plan accommodation in advance to avoid disappointment.”
