The Bilbao Guggenheim Museum will soon open a major new exhibition entitled Chaos and Classicism: Art in France, Italy, Germany and Spain, 1918-1936.

It will run from February 22nd to May 15th 2011 and will explore the trends in art that were popular at the time.

According to the venue, the era saw artists incorporate clear lines and modelled form into their pieces, showing a more classic style than the abstract ideas of expressionism.

The arts space suggested that this trend may have been a direct response to the horrors and chaos of the first world war.

Attendees can expect to see sculptures, paintings and other decorative items from artists such as Otto Dix, Giorgio de Chirico and Jean Cocteau.

Admission to the Bilbao Guggenheim Museum costs €8 (£6.80), with tickets available online as well as at the box office.

The building is open between 10:00 and 20:00 local time from Tuesday to Sunday.
