LateRooms.com - Enjoy A View From the Bridge in the Lake District

A new production of Arthur Miller's A View From the Bridge will open in the Lake District later this month.

The Theatre by the Lake is getting ready to present a version of the play directed by Stefan Escreet, with set design by Martin Johns.

First performed in 1955, A View From the Bridge is a tale of honour, passion and betrayal, set among the Italian-American community of New York.

It tells the story of Eddie Carbone, a longshoreman whose obsession with his niece Catherine becomes dangerous when she falls in love with a newly arrived Italian immigrant.

The Theatre by the Lake production will run from Friday April 1st to Saturday April 23rd, with evening performances beginning at 19:30 GMT.

Matinee shows will also take place at the Keswick venue on selected dates, starting at 13:30 or 14:00.

Tickets are priced between £10 and £23.

Although not as famous as other Miller works such as The Crucible and Death of a Salesman, A View From the Bridge has been revived many times since its debut.

Hollywood stars Scarlett Johansson and Liev Schreiber appeared in a new version on Broadway in 2009 and 2010, which saw Johansson win a Tony Award for her performance as Catherine.

Theatre-goers can find a range of Lake District accommodation at LateRooms.com, including the Sharrow Bay Hotel Lake District.
