Some of the world's top funnymen and women are flocking to New South Wales in the coming weeks for the annual Sydney Comedy Festival (SCF).

Launched in 2005, the event has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence and is one of the highlights of the city's packed cultural calendar.

Among the stars on the bill is US comic Greg Proops, famed for his self-deprecating humour and flamboyant retro hairstyle. Although a highly-rated stand-up act, Proops is best known for starring in the UK and American version of Whose Line is it Anyway?.

He will take the stage at the Enmore Theatre on April 16th 2011. Tickets are priced at AU$39.90 and the doors open at 19:00 local time.

Ireland's Tommy Tiernan is appearing at the same venue on April 12th and 13th. The comedian returns to the festival following his sold-out tour of Australia and New Zealand in 2010.

Tiernan's show is scheduled to kick off at 21:30 on both nights. Admission costs AU$49.90.

SCF runs from April 11th to May 8th. As well as the Enmore Theatre, it is hosted by some of the city's most prestigious venues, including the world-famous Sydney Opera House.

Comedy fans looking for hotel deals in the area can head to LateRooms.com, which recommends a wide and varied selection of Sydney hotels.
