Industry: Travel

The Melbourne Queer Film Festival (MQFF) will celebrate its 21st anniversary when it returns to the Victoria capital next month.

Having launched in 1991, it is the longest running event of its kind in Australia and one of the oldest in the world. It is also the second largest film festival in Victoria.

When it first took place, MQFF was known as the Melbourne International Lesbian & Gay Film & Video Festival.

It adopted its shorter, snappier moniker in 2003, having been given the title Melbourne Queer Film & Video Festival in 1993.

Since its launch and through all its various names, it is thought that more than 200,000 people have visited the showcase and its related events.

Among the movie highlights on this year's bill are screenings of Bear City, The Last Summer of La Boyita and Prima Donna: The Story of Rufus Wainwright's Debut Opera.

Prospective visitors can find out more when the full festival programme is published on February 24th 2011.

MQFF takes place from March 17th to 24th at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image in Federation Square.

Movie buffs looking for Melbourne hotels can head to LateRooms.com and choose from a large selection of cheap accommodation in the area.
