One of Shakespeare's greatest works will be performed at the Hall for Cornwall later this year.

Derek Jacobi stars in the latest production of the classic tragedy by the Donmar Warehouse, which is heading out on an eight-week tour of the UK following an acclaimed run in London.

People in the south-west can see the play in Truro between Tuesday April 12th and Saturday April 16th, with tickets priced between £11 and £27.50.

Widely regarded as one of the Bard's finest masterpieces, King Lear tells the story of a monarch who descends into madness after dividing his estate up among his three daughters.

According to the Donmar Warehouse, the play is both "one of the greatest works in western literature" and a stunning dramatic spectacle.

Jacobi has drawn widespread critical praise for his performance as the titular character.

The veteran actor joins a long line of great performers who have portrayed King Lear on stage, including the likes of Laurence Olivier, John Gielgud, Ian McKellen and Pete Postlethwaite.

Evening performances at the Hall for Cornwall will begin at 19:30 GMT, with a matinee show scheduled for 14:30 on Saturday April 16th.

Drama fans planning to stay in one of the luxury hotels Cornwall has to offer can find many options at LateRooms.com, which has the Jamaica Inn Cornwall among its recommended hotels.
