Maya is the daughter of renowned flamenco performer Mario Maya, who passed away in 2008, but she has carved out a reputation of her own. Born in New York, she started dancing at the age of 18 and formed her own company in 1997 called La Diosa en Nosotras, which means 'the goddess in us'. Fans of the genre may also recognise her from the 1996 Carlos Saura movie Flamenco.
