Cowboys and girls will head to the Gold Coast at the start of
next month to compete in the 2011 National Finals Rodeo (NFR).
The event was originally scheduled to take place in January, but Queensland's flood
emergency caused a three-month delay. It is now set to run between April 7th and
10th at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Millions of dollars will be on the line at Australia's largest rodeo, which will
see sportsmen and women compete in six categories - bareback bronc riding, barrel
racing, bull riding, saddle bronc, steer wrestling and team roping.
The NFR coincides with and takes place in the same suburb as the Australian Surf
Life Saving Titles, meaning the Gold Coast will be the country's capital of "Reef
and Beef" at the time.
"There are the cowboys, cowgirls, the bucking stock, the bulls and barrel racing,
but there are also huge TV screens, plenty of glamour, colour and much more," the
organisers explained.
Proceedings kick off at 19:00 local time on the opening night. Passes are available
from AU$19 for adults and AU$12 for children. Family tickets start at AU$50.
Sports fans looking for cheap accommodation in the area can find a wide variety of Gold Coast accommodation at LateRooms.com.au.
