An exhibition of Giuseppe Archimboldo's work could be fun for fans of peculiar art, as the painter made a series of portraits using images of fruit and vegetables.

The show will be on display until May 22nd at the Palazzo Reale, with tickets priced at €9 (£7.75).

Archimboldo is an unforgettable part of the country's creative history with his bizarre yet popular pieces.

Oddly, his maverick style was embraced by royalty, with the 16th-century Italian artist creating portraits of many famous figures using his singular technique.

Travellers in Milan can see more than 300 pieces of artwork that explore his career and investigate a few of the mysteries surrounding his life.

His influence can be seen in 20th century pieces by surrealists such as Salvador Dali.

Visitors can view the installation between 09:30 and 17:30 local time daily, except for Monday when it opens at the later time of 14:30. The exhibition closes at 22:30 on Thursday and Saturday.
