Some of the biggest stars in men's tennis will be heading to
Munich for the BMW Open next month.
The outdoor clay court tournament takes place at the Bavarian capital's Iphitos
Tennis Club and traditionally attracts players of the highest calibre.
Running from Saturday April 23rd to Sunday May 1st, it is the first of five German
events on the ATP World Tour calendar this year.
A prize pool of €398,250 (£345,400) is up for grabs, as well as the chance for
entrants to boost their world rankings, so the stage is set for a week of thrilling
and highly competitive action.
Mikhail Youzhny of Russia is the reigning champion, having defeated Croatia's Marin
Cilic in the final last year.
Other previous winners of the tournament include stars such as Ivan Lendl, Thomas
Enqvist, Nikolay Davydenko and 16-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer, who
triumphed at the event in 2003.
Philipp Kohlschreiber was the last German player to taste victory at the BMW Open,
beating Youzhny in three sets to claim the title in 2007.
Ticket prices for the matches vary, depending on where people choose to sit and the
day on which they attend.
Family tickets, which allow admission for two adults and a maximum of four children,
are priced between €38 and €55.
Exclusive boxes are also available on the club's centre court for those who prefer
to enjoy the sport in more luxurious surroundings.
Spectators are kept entertained with live music and performance art in between matches.
Tennis fans can find a wide range of Munich hotels at LateRooms.com, including the Hotel Leonardo Munich.
