Shanghai's upcoming China Tea Expo is set to see thousands of producers, industry members and lovers of the iconic beverage descend on the city next month.

Also known as the Shanghai International Tea Culture Festival, the event offers visitors the chance to sample different varieties, explore famous tea-related hotspots and attend special ceremonies dedicated to the drink.

Performers will demonstrate their love for a good brew with a series of calligraphy, dance and poetry shows.

Attendees also have the chance to pick up tips on which tea leaves are recommended for curing specific ailments.

A host of tea-based products will also be on offer, including everything from porcelain cups and saucers to tea storage technology.

The 2011 China Tea Expo will occupy 16,000 sq m at Shanghai's Intex exhibition centre and run from May 20th to 23rd.

Proceedings take place from 09:00 to 17:00 local time from May 20th to 22nd, while the final day's events are scheduled to come to a close at 14:30.

Tea lovers thinking of booking Shanghai hotels and attending the festival can find a wide array of accommodation in the city at AsiaRooms.com.

One example, the Salvo Hotel Shanghai, is located less than ten kilometres from the venue.
