Shanghai's acclaimed Symphony Orchestra will honour the life and works of iconic 19th century composer Franz Liszt in a special concert in Shanghai next month.

The production has been organised as part of the celebrations to mark the 200th anniversary of Liszt's birth in October 1811.

Two of the musician's most famous works - Piano Concerto No 2 in A Major and A Faust Symphony - will be performed at the show.

Guo-Yong Zhang has been lined up to conduct the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, having previously acted as music director for the Shenzen Symphony Orchestra.

Talented pianist Sun Yingdi is also set to appear in the show. He won the prestigious seventh International Franz Liszt Piano Competition in Utrecht back in 2005, becoming the first Chinese artist to claim the title.

Since picking up the honour, Yingdi has performed across Europe, the US, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the Asia Pacific region.

The concert is scheduled to take place on May 7th 2011 at the Shanghai Concert Hall. Tickets are available for between 90 and 460 Chinese yuan renminbi (£8.50 and £43).

Classical music lovers looking for Shanghai hotels can use AsiaRooms.com to book the Salvo Hotel Shanghai, located just a mile from the venue.
