Smash-hit Irish music and performance show Riverdance is coming to Hong Kong for a limited run at the start of next month.

The production was created through the development of an original idea that was first seen as a seven-minute interval act at the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest.

It received widespread critical acclaim and broke box office records when it hit the stage for the first time in Dublin back in 1995.

When it transferred to London later that year, overwhelming demand led to its run being extended to 151 shows from the ten that were originally scheduled.

Since then, it has continued to grow, packing out venues across Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania.

Riverdance is set to open at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts' (HKAPA's) Lyric Theatre on May 3rd 2011.

Evening shows will start at 20:00 local time from Tuesdays to Saturdays and at 19:00 on Sundays. Weekend matinees get underway at 14:00.

Tickets vary in price from HK$350 to HK$950 (£28 to £76), depending on the seat.
