The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra (ASO) will pay tribute to
Miles Davis with two performances in the South Australia capital in May
2011.
One of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, Davis was at the
forefront of many major developments in jazz, including bebop, hard bop and jazz
fusion.
His ensembles also helped to launch the careers of many other well-known artists
such as JJ Johnson, Kai Winding and Gerry Mulligan.
Davis's career spanned 50 years, during which he released seminal albums like First
Miles, Kind of Blue and Someday My Prince Will Come.
Acclaimed Australian trumpeter James Morrison will perform with the ASO at the
concerts, which take place at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre (AEC) on May 13th
and 14th.
James Muller and Phillip Stack will play guitar and bass respectively, while Joe
Muccioli has been lined up to conduct.
Both shows are scheduled to get underway at 20:00 local time.
Ticket prices start at AU$54.90 for adults, AU$49.90 for concessions and AU$20 for
children.
The venue is located on the corner of Port Road and Adam Street. Tram rides from the
city centre to the AEC are free.
