Madrid's Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia (MNCARS) is showcasing an exhibition of Asier Mendizabal's work this spring.

The installation will be on display until May 2nd 2011 and features all sorts of pieces, ranging from collections of photographs to abstract sculptures.

According to the venue, Mendizabal's work shows how much modernity is a reflection of the past.

There will be several of the artist's previous works on show, but much of the excitement will surround the two items he has created especially for the installation at MNCARS, Hard Edge and Soft Focus.

While the former is a fascinating sculpture, the latter uses images of Basque culture captured by Willy Koch to examine the notion of collective identification.

"His enigmatic work, not easily deciphered, turns anecdotes into an event that makes the past current; a past in which the history of art and the ideology of shape have a fundamental weight," the organisers of the exhibition explained.

The display is housed in the Sabatini building, which is open from 10:00 local time daily, closing at 21:00 from Monday to Saturday and 14:30 on Sunday. The venue is closed on Tuesday.

Admission to the temporary installation costs €3 (£2.60).
