LateRooms.com - Check Out The Young Ribera in Madrid

Released on: April 13, 2011, 10:41 am
Author: LateRooms Ltd
Industry: Travel

The Young Ribera at Madrid's El Prado showcases the finest pieces by a Spanish-born painter who spent much of his working life in Italy.

Jose de Ribera was a 17th century artist whose style was heavily influenced by Caravaggio.

He used this form of painting to revisit subjects such as the Apostles and portray them in a new manner.

The exhibition, which runs until July 31st 2011, includes works such as the Martyrdom of Saint Bartholomew and The Preliminaries for Crucifixion.

It has been split into four sections to allow attendees to explore the different style of paintings he produced over the course of his life.

A representative from the gallery explained: "It was during his time in Parma, Rome and his early years in Naples that Ribera studied and rethought the language of naturalism.

"The exhibition focuses on this period."

Visitors can find the display in Room C of the Jeronimos Building.

Tickets to see the installation cost €10 (£8.80). Opening hours are from 09:00 to 20:00 local time from Tuesday to Sunday.

If art fans want to find Madrid hotels for their visit, they can browse through a wide range of options on LateRooms.com, including the Westin Palace Madrid.

Visit www.museodelprado.es/en for more information about the exhibition or call the venue on +34 91 330 2800.
