The 26-year-old singer is due to appear at the city's Philipshalle on Thursday May 19th, when she will perform with a full orchestra for the first time. Since arriving on the scene in 2005, Fischer has enjoyed a string of hits in Germany and acquired a devoted legion of fans across Europe. The graduate of the famous Frankfurt Stage and Musical School is known as 'the Queen of Schlager' -a reference to the sub-genre of German popular music that she now dominates. Schlager, a term that loosely translates as 'hit', is used to describe music that is characterised by simple, catchy melodies, emotional ballads and romantic lyrical themes. Fischer's success in the genre has seen her receive three Echo awards - the German equivalent of the Grammys - in just six years. Her network of fans also looks set to extend beyond continental Europe, as the vocalist recently unveiled her first collection of songs performed in English. Entitled The English Ones, the album was produced by renowned German composer Jean Frankfurter and features English-language versions of Fischer's most popular hits. "I have always dreamed of singing my songs in another language," she explained in a statement on her official website. "Language is a tool, but it is important that what you sing comes from the heart - and that is what this album is about."
