Internationally acclaimed viola player Maxim Rysanov will star in the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra's upcoming Russia in Sound Pictures concert.

The production features works from some of Russia's most celebrated composers, including Anatoly Liadov's The Enchanted Lake, Variations on a Rococo Theme by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Modest Mussorgsky's Pictures at Exhibition.

Long Yu has been lined up to conduct the concert, while Rysanov will add his much-celebrated solos to the classical masterpieces.

Rysanov is widely seen as one of the world's most charismatic viola players and performed twice at the 2010 BBC Proms from the Royal Albert Hall, including an appearance in the Last Night of the Proms.

He has won a string of awards throughout his career, such as the Classic FM Gramophone young artist of the year. He was also named on the BBC's New Generation programme.

Other stars to have featured on the list include bass-baritone Christopher Maltman, the Leopold String Trio and pianist Simon Trpceski.

The show is set to take place at the Shanghai Concert Hall on May 28th 2011, kicking off at 19:30 local time.

Tickets range in price from 60 to 460 Chinese yuan (£5.60 to £43.20).

Classical music enthusiasts can find a wide array of Shanghai hotels at AsiaRooms.com including the Salvo Hotel Shanghai, located less than two kilometres from the venue.
