People visiting Paris have until Thursday June 23rd to experience Monumenta at the Grand Palais.

This year, the prestigious event will showcase the work of acclaimed London-based sculptor Anish Kapoor, who returns to the French capital 30 years after his first exhibition in the city.

Monumenta has been taking place in the Nave of the Grand Palais on an annual basis since 2007, when German artist Anselm Kiefer was asked to fill the vast area with a special installation.

According to the venue, the event offers "artistic interaction on an unparalleled scale", as the featured artist is required to create a new work to fill a 35-metre high space.

Kapoor's creation is entitled Leviathan and has been described by the sculptor as "a single object, a single form, a single colour".

"Visitors will be invited to walk inside the work, to immerse themselves in colour," he said in a statement from the Grand Palais.

Admission to Monumenta is priced at €5 (£4.40) and €2.50 for concessions.

The Nave of the Grand Palais is open between 10:00 and 19:00 local time on Wednesdays and Mondays. It is closed on Tuesdays, while Thursday to Sunday opening times are 10:00 to 00:00.

Culture vultures who require luxury hotels in Paris can use Hotels-Paris.co.uk to find a range of recommended options, including accommodation in the Louvre area.

Visit www.monumenta.com/ for more information on this event.
