It is part of a wider B2Run series of races organised in a number of German cities, including Dortmund, Hanover, Hamburg and Munich, with the aim being to reach the grand final in Berlin in September. Even if participants do not qualify for the finals, there will be certificates and medals handed out and some of the proceeds go to charity. Last year, more than 2,000 people took part in the Dusseldorf contest, which sees participants from the surrounding area complete a 6.6km course along the Rhine River and through the Esprit Arena. It will be only the second year the city has held the race, which is primarily aimed at bringing corporate teams into competition on the track. For those who are proud of their performance, there will be digital videos available of runners crossing the finishing line. Even if people are not happy with their time, they can raise their spirits by joining in the fun at the after-party. Attendees can expect to be served a variety of treats after they have completed the challenge, including cakes, sweets, drinks and fruit; the perfect remedy after a gruelling race.
