The event is held every year to celebrate the town's industrial heritage. Wundowie Iron Festival's main draw is the Iron Beast Competition, in which individuals and teams are tasked with building a vehicle made predominantly from iron and steel, powered by the downward force of a 20 kg weight. Some AU$1,000 in prize money will be awarded to the contraption that travels the longest distance.
