LateRooms.com - Goya and More Opens in Madrid's Museo del Prado

Madrid's Museo del Prado has unveiled a new exhibition of rarely-seen works called Goya and More.

Running until July 31st 2011, the display explores the acquisition policy of the gallery from 1997 to 2010, organising pieces according to when they were purchased.

The title of the collection refers to how the Prado has always been very interested in acquiring the art of Francisco Goya, while everything else has in some ways been secondary to the great Spanish painter.

It will also give people some idea of what sort of exhibitions are coming up in the future.

The organisers explained in a statement: "It offers visitors the first opportunity to admire the most important works acquired over this period and which are normally stored in the Department of Prints and Drawings due to their fragile nature."

Among the pieces on show are Jose de Ribera's Boy with Windmill and Old Man Pulling Cart with a Dead Body, which was painted in the 15th century.

The venue is open from 09:00 to 20:00 local time from Tuesday to Sunday. Tickets for the exhibition cost €10 (£8.80).

LateRooms.com offers art enthusiasts a wide range of Madrid hotels, including the Westin Palace Madrid.
