The German capital's annual celebration of multiculturalism and ethnic diversity is due to take place from Friday June 10th to Monday June 13th.

With live music, dancing, outlandish costumes and a colourful street parade passing through the bustling Kreuzberg district, the Carnival of Cultures is a truly unmissable event for people spending time in Berlin this summer.

Details regarding this year's event are yet to be finalised, but the four-day street festival attracted roughly 700,000 revellers to the city in 2010 and a similar number are expected to join the party this time around.

Last year, the musical entertainment was spread across four stages in Kreuzberg - Bazaar Berlin, Eurasia, Farafina and Latinauta - featuring local bands, DJs and international talent.

Visitors were also treated to a range of exotic food stalls and displays from a variety of magicians, acrobats and stilt-walkers on the nearby grasslands.

The centrepiece of the Carnival of Cultures is the vibrant street procession, which usually passes down Gneisenaustrasse and features participating groups from around the world.

This year, the parade will take place on Sunday June 12th, with further details to be released nearer the time.

In 2010, the procession featured about 4,800 participants and saw 750,000 people line the route to enjoy the occasion.

The carnival's organisers are committed to making the event as environmentally friendly as possible - all street traders are asked to serve food on reusable dishes and the event's official booklet is printed on recycled paper.

People planning to enjoy the festivities this summer will find a wide range of Berlin hotels on offer at LateRooms.com, including the Maritim Hotel Berlin.
