The singer is due to appear at the German city's Philipshalle venue on Sunday June 5th as part of her 2011 European tour. Now 60, Alexiou has been performing regularly since the early 1970s and is one of the most commercially successful recording artists to have emerged from Greece. Born in Thebes, the singer is known for her warm, expressive vocals and charismatic stage presence. She has released more than 30 albums and taken Greek music to audiences around the world with her performances. Alexiou reached a global audience when she sang at the closing ceremony of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and frequently appears in front of huge crowds in her native country.
