Brisbane's Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) will be the exclusive Australian venue for Surrealism: The Poetry of Dreams.

The installation, which opens on June 2nd 2011, features a collection of surrealist works from the Musee National d'Art Moderne at the Pompidou Centre in Paris.

More than 150 pieces from 56 artists are included in the display, including everything from paintings and sculptures to films, photographs and collages.

It is an opportunity for visitors to see artworks from the likes of Salvador Dali, Max Ernst and Man Ray that rarely leave the Paris venue.

The display is set to include pieces from the early days of the surrealist movement in the 1920s, through to later creations by Jackson Pollock and Arshile Gorky.

Surrealism: The Poetry of Dreams coincides with the launch of an innovative Children's Art Centre programme that boasts an array of public performances, discussions and a full-colour exhibition itinerary.

The installation is scheduled to run until October 2nd.

Single-day passes are priced at AU$21.50 for adults, AU$17.50 for concessions and AU$11.50 for 13 to 17-year-olds. Under-12s get in free.

The GoMA opens from 10:00 to 17:00 local time in the week and from 09:00 to 17:00 on Saturdays and Sundays.

Arts enthusiasts looking for cheap hotels near the gallery can use LateRooms.com.au to browse a wide array of Brisbane hotels.
