AsiaRooms.com - 100 Years of Hong Kong's Aviation Development on Show at Airport

A free exhibition entitled 100 Years of Hong Kong's Aviation Development gives air passengers a fascinating display to view before boarding a flight from the region.

The installation is on show until June 30th in the departure hall of Hong Kong International Airport's Terminal 1.

It is split into three sections, with the first covering the pre-Kai Tak period before 1925 and the second including everything until 1998 - what is known as the Kai Tak era.

Finally, the third area looks at modern innovations that have been developed in the region over the past decade or so.

"The year 2011 marks the centenary of powered flight in Hong Kong. The aviation industry is jointly organising a series of events to commemorate this important milestone," explained the organisers in a statement.

They noted that the first official "powered" flight in the region took place on March 18th 1911, when Belgian aviator Charles Van Den Born flew from Sha Tin beach.

Visitors can see a selection of photographs of key moments in the history of Hong Kong aviation, as well as a real Farman biplane.

Aviation fans will find a wealth of Hong Kong hotels to choose from at AsiaRooms.com, including the Kings De Nathan.
