The Laguna Phuket International Marathon is just around the corner, but people do not have to complete the full distance to get involved.

While the 42.195 km course will attract many hardy runners, there are shorter routes available for people who want to participate but do not feel up to such a long haul.

There is a 21 km half marathon, a 10.5 km challenge and a 2 km kids run, as well as a 5 km community walk. It all takes place on June 12th.

The beautiful scenery in the area should help all runners with their races, with the courses taking in a small village, buffalo-ploughed rice fields and sea views.

About 5,000 people are expected to take part, with famous faces from Thai television and cinema likely to make an appearance.

To enter the full marathon, participants must be 18 years old or over, while the 21 km race is open to anyone 16 and above and the 10.5 km challenge can be attempted by athletes aged 12.

Last year, the main event was won by Charkrit Boonkong with a time of 2:40.08 hours.
