Reed is due to play the French capital's Grand Rex venue on Tuesday July 5th, having announced the date as part of his European tour earlier this year.

Known for his work with The Velvet Underground and huge solo hits such as Perfect Day, the 69-year-old New Yorker boasts an impressive back catalogue of material.

He recently unveiled a remastered version of his notorious 1975 album Metal Machine Music, which polarised opinion at the time of its release.

Critics were initially unsure what to make of the record's long pieces of modulated guitar feedback, but it has since been reappraised as an early example of industrial rock or noise music.

Regularly cited as one of the most influential figures in contemporary music, Reed is preparing to release a DVD of his acclaimed performances at the US touring festival Lollapalooza in 2009.
