Anthony Warlow is set to star in Brisbane's new run of Doctor Zhivago, which gets underway next month.

The critically acclaimed production will hit the stage for the first time in the Queensland capital on Wednesday July 6th 2011, having previously wowed audiences in Melbourne and Sydney.

Warlow will take on the title role in the play, based on the famous novel by Boris Pasternak.

It tells the story of Yuri Zhivago, a Russian poet and physician whose life is dramatically affected by the country's revolution and civil war in 1917.

The book made the transition to the silver screen in 1965, with Omar Sharif playing the titular character. It went on to become one of the highest grossing films of all time.

In the Brisbane show, Taneel van Zyl will appear alongside Warlow as Doctor Zhivago's wife, while Lucy Maunder has been lined up to play Lara, his true love.

The Queensland Performing Arts Centre's Lyric Theatre will play host to the production, which runs for two hours and 45 minutes, including a 20-minute interval.

Ticket prices range from AU$59.90 to AU$140.90,plus a booking fee of AU$5.95.
