LateRooms.com - Tate Liverpool to showcase Rene Magritte exhibition
Released on: June 28, 2011, 2:45 pm A new exhibition entitled The Pleasure Principle is due to go on show at Tate Liverpool on June 24th, offering visitors an in-depth study of the artwork of Rene Magritte. The display will be available to view until October 16th 2011 and is the biggest collection of the Belgian's oeuvre to be showcased in 20 years. As well as bringing together many of Magritte's most iconic pieces, The Pleasure Principle includes drawings, collages, rare commercial work, photography and films by the artist. "Renowned for witty images depicting everyday objects such as apples, bowler hats and pipes in unusual settings, Magritte's art plays with the idea of reality and illusion," noted the organisers in a statement. He is said to have inspired a variety of artists with his peculiar style, including filmmaker Jean-Luc Goddard, musician Paul Simon and the legendary Andy Warhol. Admission is £11 and the exhibition is open from 10:00 to 17:50 BST every day. From September 1st, it will be closed on Mondays. Groups of ten or more can qualify for a discounted ticket price, but they must book two weeks in advance.
