The Muslim special occasion Hari Raya Aidil Fitri is to be celebrated next month and will see people all over Malaysia enjoying good food and drink after a period of fasting.

It is expected to take place on August 30th and 31st, when the new moon appears in the sky.

This signals the end of the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, Ramadan, when all believers fast from dawn until dusk each day.

Hari Raya Aidil Fitri, also known as Eid ul-Fitr, is the celebration following this period of restraint, when believers can get back to a more conventional eating pattern.

"Decked in their traditional finery, friends and family from near and far come together to celebrate this joyous occasion. There will be lots of tasty delicacies to make the celebration memorable," explained the Pahang Tourism Board.

A representative from the organisation noted that Muslims will start the day with prayers and often visit the cemeteries where loved ones are buried.

While in many parts of the world Eid al-Adha is seen as a more important religious event, in south-east Asia Eid ul-Fitr tends to hold greater significance.

AsiaRooms.com offers a wide range of Malaysia hotels that may appeal to travellers, including the First World Hotel.
