AsiaRooms.com - New Abbas Show Opens in Singapore

Released on: July 27, 2011, 9:28 am
Author: AsiaRooms Ltd
Industry: Travel

A retrospective of the Iranian photographer Abbas's work has gone on show at Singapore's National Museum and will be available to view until September 18th 2011.

The display features 133 images captured by the artist, who has had his pictures published in some of the biggest publications in the world.

"As a member of the prestigious photo agency Magnum since 1981, acclaimed photographer Abbas has roamed the world for 45 years, covering major political and social events," the organisers explained in a statement.

Religion often takes a central role in his pictures, with the photographer seeing it as an integral part of different cultures.

Conflicts in South Africa, Vietnam, Northern Ireland, Cuba and the Middle East have been the themes of the images he has captured over the past 40 years.

Abbas has undertaken projects relating to Islam, Buddhism, animism and Christianity, while his latest collection focused on Hinduism.

Born in Iran in 1944, he moved to Paris as an adult, but spends most of his time travelling.

Admission costs S$5 (£2.55). Opening hours are from 10:00 to 18:00 local time every day.

AsiaRooms.com offers a huge range of Singapore hotels that may appeal to photograph fanatics, including The Fragrance Hotel.
