A baroque opera performance of Henry Purcell's Dido and Aeneas will arrive in the Lake District next month.

Opera lovers will have to chance to see the production at the Theatre by the Lake in Keswick on Sunday August 14th.

Created specially for the Lake District Summer Music International Festival by director Michael Fields, the show is due to begin at 20:00 BST.

Dido and Aeneas follows the bittersweet love story of Dido, Queen of Carthage and Trojan hero Aeneas, tracing the stormy trajectory of their relationship.

The work is one of the earliest English operas and is commonly regarded as one of Purcell's most theatrical pieces of work.

Soprano Evelyn Tubb, who has been described as one of the outstanding sopranos of her generation, plays the title role of Dido. Tubb's career includes highly regarded ensemble work with the Consort of Musicke and Taverner Consort.

The impressive cast also includes mezzo-soprano Regina Dahlen, soprano Roseanna Skikun and tenor Dan Hunt.

Tickets to the production are currently on sale, priced at £13 and £22.50.

Opera fans seeking Lake District accommodation will find a wide range of options at LateRooms.com, including the Sharrow Bay Hotel Lake District.
