LateRooms.com - The Mark of Courbet on Show in Barcelona

Released on: July 15, 2011, 10:50 am
Author: LateRooms Ltd
Industry: Travel

The Museo Nacional D'Art de Catalunya (MNAC) is currently showing an exhibition called The Mark of Courbet, which explores the impact of the painter Gustave Courbet.

It invites the public to learn about the Realism art movement spearheaded by the 19th century French painter, as well as discover how the trend came about.

The display will be available to view until July 24th 2011 and features a wide selection of Courbet's most acclaimed works, including several that have never been shown in the country before.

In a statement, the organisers remarked: "The exhibition reveals Courbet's influence on Catalan painting in the period, most of all through the work of Ramon Marti Alsina, the man responsible for the renewal of painting and who introduced Realism to the Spanish art scene."

The MNAC is housed within the Palau Nacional in the Parc de Montjuic. Visitors can take the Metro to Plaza Espanya to reach the arts space.

It costs €5.50 (£4.90) to enter and the facility is open from 10:00 to 19:00 local time from Tuesday to Saturday and between 10:00 and 14:30 on Sunday.

LateRooms.com offers a wide variety of cheap hotels in Barcelona that may appeal to art enthusiasts, such as the Hotel Barbara Barcelona.

Find out more by visiting www.mnac.cat or ringing the gallery on +34 93 622 0376.
