Hong Kong visitors will be able to participate in the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations during the first half of next month.

The annual event takes place between September 3rd and 13th and marks the coming of harvest time and the brightest moon of the year, as well as commemorating a 14th century uprising against the Mongols.

During the festival, it is traditional to eat moon cakes, a local type of delicacy that includes ground lotus and sesame seed paste, while attending lantern carnivals and exhibitions taking place throughout the area.

During the last three days of the celebrations, visitors will also be able to witness the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance, which will see a spectacular 67m-long flaming dragon making its way through the streets.

This procession was recently included in China's third national intangible cultural heritage list.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of many Chinese cultural events occurring in Hong Kong next month, with the annual Monkey God Festival also set to take place on September 13th.

Holidaymakers can browse a wide selection of Hong Kong hotels at AsiaRooms.com ahead of next month's event, including the Kings De Nathan.

For more information on the festival and the accompanying events, go to www.discoverhongkong.com.
