Wilbur Wilde & The Troublemakers and The Davidson Brothers are just two of the acts on the bill of the 156th Royal Melbourne Show, which will get underway in late September.

Established as a ploughing competition back in 1848, it has grown to become the largest and longest running annual public entertainment event in Victoria, attracting around half a million visitors every year.

This year's show is due to run at Melbourne Showgrounds from Saturday September 24th to Tuesday October 4th.

The Davidson Brothers, winners of the 2010 group of the year prize at the Australian Independent Country Music Awards, are set to perform at the site on the opening Saturday and Sunday.

Described by fellow country musician Troy Cassar-Daley as "the best young bluegrass pickers we have seen for a long while in Australia", the multi-instrumental brothers play banjo, fiddle and mandolin.

Also due to perform on Sunday September 26th are Wilbur Wilde & The Troublemakers, who will entertain the crowds with hits from the 70s, 80s and 90s.

As well as the music, there will be several free displays and attractions at the Royal Melbourne Show, including an animal nursery precinct.

General admission to the Showgrounds will cost AU$30 for adults and AU$15 for five to 14-year-olds.

Music lovers will find LateRooms.com.au recommends a huge choice of last minute accommodation in Melbourne.
