Indie rock stalwarts The Bluetones are due to play live in Liverpool on their Farewell Tour next month.

Their show at the O2 Academy on Thursday September 15th will feature a set of the band's biggest hits, as they are bringing the curtain down on 17 years of touring and recording.

Known for hits such as Slight Return, Cut Some Rug and Marblehead Johnson, the group enjoyed chart success during the Britpop era and have continued to perform regularly in front of their devoted fans.

Expecting to Fly, the band's debut album, briefly knocked (What's the Story) Morning Glory by Oasis off the number one spot in the UK albums chart in 1996.

In an official statement about the Farewell Tour, the group explained: "We will be playing a career-spanning set of songs as a way to say thank you to our loyal supporters and hopefully signing off with a bit of a bang."

A New Athens, the sixth and final studio LP from The Bluetones, was released via CIA Recordings in May last year.

Tickets to see the band in Liverpool are available online, priced at £16 plus booking fee.
