Released on: August 17, 2011, 3:04 pm
Author: LateRooms Ltd
Industry: Travel

The 16th edition of the Milano Film Festival is set to begin on Friday September 9th.

Offering a ten-day programme of movie screenings, competitions, retrospectives and special features, the event traditionally attracts budding film-makers from all over the world.

Anticipated highlights of the 2011 festival include a Jonathan Demme retrospective and a tribute to Randall Poster, the music supervisor behind the soundtracks to acclaimed films such as Rushmore and Kids.

Demme, the director of Philadelphia and The Silence of the Lambs, will be a special guest in Milan this year.

Many of his movies will be screened over the ten days, including 2008's Rachel Getting Married and his recent documentary about legendary singer-songwriter Neil Young.

There will also be two international competitions during the festival - one for feature films and one for shorts.

Screenings take place at venues all over the city centre, including the Parco Sempione, the Anteo Spaziocinema and the Auditorium San Fedele.

Festival passes, which entitle the holder to a seat at every screening, are available online for €35 (£30.60) until September 2nd. After that, the price goes up to €50.

Film fans planning to book luxury hotels in Milan can browse a variety of accommodation at LateRooms.com, which recommends the Hotel Berna Milan.
