The annual Brisbane Festival will return at the start of next month when the Queensland capital hosts its iconic Riverfire show.

More than 500,000 people are expected to converge on the banks of the Brisbane River on Saturday September 3rd to watch the fireworks display, which will be accompanied by music and special effects.

Celebrations are due to commence at 12:00 local time, when rock radio network Triple M will begin its outside broadcast from the Riverfire site at South Bank Parklands.

The fireworks show is due to get underway at 19:00.

Among the most popular vantage point for the display is the South Bank itself, which will be fenced for public safety and closed when capacity is reached.

People keen to watch the fireworks in this area are advised to arrive early, ensuring they will be able to enjoy the Australian Defence Force Open Day when it kicks off at 12:00.

Other areas that offer great views of the display include Kangaroo Point Cliffs, Victoria Bridge, Captain Burke Park and Wilson's Lookout. Food and drink will be on sale at all of these sites throughout the day.

Tourists planning to attend the Riverfire show can head to LateRooms.com.au and choose from a wide and varied selection of last minute accommodation in Brisbane.

For more information on the display, head to www.brisbanefestival.com.au/.
