LateRooms.com.au - Set Sail for Audi Hamilton Island Race Week

Released on: August 12, 2011, 3:59 pm
Author: LateRooms Ltd
Industry: Travel

The Audi Hamilton Island Race Week is set to return to the Whitsundays later this month.

Founded in 1983 by Melbourne businessmen David Hutchen, the event has grown significantly to become one of the biggest annual occasions of its kind in Australia.

Some 93 boats took part in the inaugural race week, which generated a thriving atmosphere despite being hit with unfavourable weather.

From August 1992, the organisers decided to move the event to August when the conditions are more stable, making it more appealing for southern yacht owners to attend.

The success of the race week has been driven by its mix of beautiful courses that take in the picturesque Whitsundays, combined with top-quality management and a packed bill of onshore entertainment.

Each evening, competitors and spectators can head to the Marina Tavern Main Stage to enjoy live music from the likes of Under the Radar, Honey and the Shane Wilkinson Trio. DJ LA Walker will also be performing sets at the Bohemes venue every night.

The Audi Hamilton Island Race Week is due to get underway on Friday August 19th and run until Saturday August 27th.

Sailing enthusiasts will find LateRooms.com.au offers a generous array of Hamilton Island accommodation, including a large choice of cheap hotels for travellers on a budget.
