Singapore's Chinese Garden will be transformed with illuminations throughout the Lantern Festival, which is due to get underway later this month.

Also known as the Mooncake Festival, the event is celebrated by Chinese communities across the world and is strongly associated with the legends of Houyi and Chang'e, the Chinese moon goddess.

It is one of the most important occasions on the Chinese calendar, along with new year and the Winter Solstice.

To mark the event, the eight hectares of green space that make up Singapore's Chinese Garden are set to be decked out with large-scale lanterns and props.

Carnival games, stage performances and food stalls offering traditional delicacies from China will be available in the park, while parents will have the chance to entertain their children at Kids Fun Land.

The celebrations are scheduled to take place from Friday August 26th to Sunday September 18th, with the opening hours running between 09:00 and 23:00 local time on each day.

Admission will cost S$12 (AU$9.42) for adults and S$8 for children aged under 12.

Visitors can reach the site by alighting at the Chinese Garden MRT Station.

Festival-goers will find LateRooms.com.au recommends a wide array of Singapore hotels, including the V Hotel Lavender and Changi Village Hotel.
