The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (TSO) are set to present their latest work, A Musical Odyssey, in Hobart towards the end of September.

Due to take place on Friday September 30th, the concert will be conducted by Sebastian Lang-Lessing and feature works from Richard Strauss and Gustav Mahler.

The programme comprises Mahler's Symphony No 1 and Mahler's Also sprach Zarathustra, better known as the theme from Stanley Kubrick's iconic movie 2001: A Space Odyssey.

"Hear it in all its heart-stopping glory together with Mahler's Symphony No 1, a towering monument to life, love and the splendour of nature," the TSO said.

Hobart's Federation Concert Hall will play host to the performance, which is scheduled to get underway at 19:30 local time.

Tickets range in price from AU$59 to AU$80 for adults and AU$45 to AU$75 for concessions, while students can get in for between AU$22 and AU$75.

The TSO were founded in 1949 and have grown to become Tasmania's flagship performing arts organisation, with a full complement of 47 musicians.

Since 2005, they have held annual performances in Sydney, while their international touring has taken them to countries such as Greece, Israel and Japan.

LateRooms.com.au recommends a wide array of Hobart accommodation that may appeal to classical music lovers, including a vast selection of cheap accommodation in Hobart.
